What is it? It is like taking many small bits of pocket change from your daily purchases and putting it all into an online piggy bank. Not the perfect analogy, but you get the idea.

I was talking with my dad a while back and we got to talking about savings and investments. He shared with me this service that he uses as one of his investments, it ’rounds up’ each purchase and then invests the change into a pre-determined portfolio. The portfolio choice ranges in risk from conservative (low risk) to aggressive (higher risk). Notice that all the portfolios have risk involved. All investments have risk. What I like about the service Acorns provides is that it is all done with small automatic transfers into the portfolio I choose. I can use the free app that they have to monitor the ’round ups’, money transfers, the progress of the investments and request withdraws from the account.
